What to Wear to a Fourth of July Cookout

My experience with going to a family outdoor party with my family has taught me a few things:

1. To pack one or two set (s) of clothes, shoes, and wipes because there will be a LOT of spilling happening with our toddler. We also like to pack a few extra balls and toys that E. can play with, just in case.

2. To keep 1 or 2 beach chair (s) and an outdoor blanket in the trunk of my car. Often the party hosts will advise guests to do so, or sometimes they simply run out of chairs. My philosophy regardless is that it is summer after all and who knows when spontaneity will strike for a last minute visit to the beach or park with the family.

3. As vegetarians, our eating lifestyle is mostly comprised of seafood, veggies, fruits, and dairy. Therefore we have to assume the grill will be populated with everything meat except vegan burgers, so we prep our own little grill box. It consists of large portabella mushroom (to be grilled) or avocados to serve as delicious toppings for our WF veggie patties, with slices of tomatoes and lettuce. Sometimes when we feel creative, we'll prep a few veggie shish kabobs as a side dish. Everything to make our time as enjoyable as possible!

4. You knew this was coming…and it's putting the chic back into comfortable and laid-back! With the fourth of July theme-infused selections below, we are opting for basics with a fun denim mix. How amazing is the denim playsuit!

5. Most importantly to remember to splash on some SPF sunscreen for protection and pack a kid-friendly mosquito repellent before you and your family head out!

Happy Independence Day!

The colder weather came rather quickly and there's no better time like the present to get just the right items for your wardrobe. Update your fall must-haves by adding hues of camel, burgundy, cobalt blue, forest green, a splash of purple, and of course, the neutral black, to bring you right into the fall season (and hopefully well into winter).

Here are 10 items to add to your wardrobe in the perfect shades and with the perfect balance of cool and casual. Stay warm!

Stylish Transitions {Day 4}

Cheers to Thursday! Today's outfit is too perfect for comfort and was designed with the coffee shop trip in mind. The next time you need a change of scenery, and decide to head over to your favorite café with your lap top, opt for a semi-sporty, semi-classy, totally-relaxed combo like this one!

Speaking of cafés, I recently tried The Shop on Wickenden St. and strongly recommend it (if you live in the area); you'll love its rustic intimacy and homey- feel and will be reminded of how adorable and warm our small city is. The iced mint and lavender tea with honey, served in a mug-size mason jar, is refreshing and oh-so delicious! You won't be able to help it but feel re-energized and ready to tackle that next job app!

If You Are Here...

…and you're reading this, welcome to the first and one of many posts about style and fashion for the professional, the entrepreneur, the parent, and the in-transition individual looking to be themselves and dress for themselves

On the blog, I'll share styling and shopping tips, along with my favorites pieces and trends. Once in a while I'll even share an outfit post (the style blogger in me can't help it). Also (and this is an absolute dream coming true) - I will turn the lens back on you by inviting a variety of voices to talk about what style means for the Rhode Island professional, leader, doer, maker, creator, dreamer.

I hope you stay connected! And remember to subscribe to my weekly Style Newsletter and follow via FB and TW to receive blog post updates.
